The Route
Important - please note that we have been notified that the Goyt valley road will be closed for major repair work until the end of August and the ride is therefore being diverted.
The description of the route which you can download below has been changed to include this diversion, but note that the map below has not been changed. The overall distances of the rides remain the same.
The Polkadot - "Spud" Riley Memorial ride starts in Cheshire and travels into Derbyshire then into Staffordshire, back into Derbyshire passing into the beautiful Dovedale area and into the true Peaks region and finally back into Cheshire to finish. The distance is 100 miles with a shorter 54 miles option. The majority of the climbs are shortish (1 to 2mls) and steep, however the penultimate climb across the High Edge moors to join the top of the famous Cat & Fiddle is 5mls in length. On the long route there are 16 official climbs (but plenty of unlisted ones) and on the short route there are 8 official climbs. All turns and climbs are signed and there are two feeding/control stations (one on the shorter route)
You can download a description of the route and further information about the climbs and feeding points here. Please note the route description will not be handed out at the start of the ride so you are advised to print a copy to take with you unless you are familiar with the route.
Please take care on all the descents.
You can download a profile of the route here - thanks to Jonathan Foote for this.
